  • I was a nerd in school. I won statewide awards in Latin and West Virginia history, was a member of Academic Bowl/Quiz Bowl/Math Field Day/Knowledge Master teams, and did all the geeky music things.
  • I love backpacking, and hope to hike the Appalachian (app-uh-latch-un, thank you very much!) Trail at some point, even if just in short sections at a time.
  • My wife and I spent our first wedding anniversary moving to Dayton. While it was exciting to move to a new place and start a new job the next day, I can’t say it was exactly romantic!

  • I was introduced to the kettlebell in 2010 and it was love at first swing. I am Hardstyle Kettlebell Certified (HKC) as of October, 2014.
  • I've jumped out of a perfectly good plane, twice; have a 1977 Suzuki 650XS and a 2003 Suzuki V-Star 1100, because who doesn’t need two motorcycles; and I’m a licensed open-water diver. It’s been suggested that I may enjoy an adrenaline rush.
  • I inherited a love of old things with character from my Gram, who was an antique dealer. I follow firmly in her packrat and decorate-by-clutter footsteps, and have a great love of hats thanks to her.

Erika Popp

Director of School Publications and Classroom Resources Editor

Erika graduated from Wittenberg University with a degree in Music Education. In 2006, she began her teaching career, which took her to schools in North Carolina and Ohio. She taught a wide variety of music classes – from Kindergarten general music to high school choir, and everything in between. Erika joined the Lorenz team in June of 2013. She uses her teaching experience in the Editorial department, making sure Lorenz’s educational products are useful and additive in today’s music classrooms.

In addition to music and education, Erika is a fan of the great outdoors. She enjoys a good hike or just being in a tree-filled area, and tries her best to snap a few photos along the way. Erika lives in Dayton, OH with her cat, Gracie, who likes the outdoors much less.

  • I got second place in a spelling bee in seventh grade and still believe we should spell the word I missed the way I spelled it. (Correct spelling: piteous. My spelling: pitious. See what I mean?)
  • Teenagers are my favorite people. They’re the most interesting.
  • I love snow more than you thought was possible.

  • I appeared as a Christmas caroler in a Christmas special of Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
  • In sixth grade, I accidentally swallowed a guitar pick. I was then rushed to the hospital where I endured an emergency procedure where they went down my esophagus with a scope and claw to retrieve it.
  • I play lead guitar in a blues band and in an Elvis Presley tribute band called "Ryan Roth and Comeback Special."
