Chester L Alwes, Heinrich Schutz
Serious choirs and conductors have come to anticipate and rely on the scholarship and authority of Dr. Alwes and his beautiful editions of choral masterworks. This piece by the great Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz is no exception. Originally written as a spiritual, private exercise for singers and not as a vehicle for public worship, this piece can be sung either in concert or worship by any small choir that can appreciate the subtlety of text expression and revel in the sonorities and counterpoint.
