John Hudson

John Frederick Hudson has received many accolades for his diverse, passionate, and expressive style as a composer, conductor, pianist, and organist. Mr. Hudson is pursuing a PhD in music composition at the University of Aberdeen where he studies with the renowned UK composer Paul Mealor; with additional private sessions from James MacMillan and James O'Donnell. His further musical involvement includes an appointment as the Postgraduate Organ Scholar at the historic King's College, Aberdeen, assistant conductor of the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir with Paul Mealor, music director and conductor for the University of Aberdeen Opera Society, director and conductor of Spectrum: Contemporary Music Ensemble, and joining the conducting faculty for the Choral Music Institute at Oxford, England under the direction of James Jordan and James Whitbourn.

The music of Mr. Hudson has been performed by various choirs throughout the world including those in New York, the UK, and Europe. Recently his music has been presented at both American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and British Choral Directors Association (BCDA) events. Mr. Hudson has published with SoundForth, GIA Publications, and Beckenhorst Press. Currently, Mr Hudson is in collaboration with librettist James Mitchell on a new chamber opera Demimondaine, to be premiered in Scotland in 2016.

Mr. Hudson earned a bachelor's degree in piano performance before turning to composition for his master's degree. As a keyboardist, he regularly coaches singers, accompanies for symphonic and opera choruses, collaborates in chamber music. He specializes in early music ensembles. Additionally, Mr. Hudson completed a second master's degree in choral conducting, graduating with distinction from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. He has studied conducting with nationally acclaimed conductors such as Helmuth Rilling (Oregon Bach Festival), Gary Graden (St. Jacobs Kammerchor), James Jordan, Joe Miller, Charles Bruffy, and Edward Higginbottom. He has also performed under many major conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel, Yannick Nézet‑Séguin, Andris Nelsons, Daniel Baremboim, and Alan Gilbert.
